SIX KEY TERMS

There are several processes that help determine the amount of taxes owed on a property. Values are determined by the appraisal district and are certified to the taxing entities in July. The taxing entities will then set the rates that will be multiplied by the value to determine taxes owed. Property owners may get involved in the process by protesting the value of their property if they believe their property is valued above market value, and by attending public hearings when their taxing units determine the tax rate.
